The Walt Disney Company is under fire after suspending late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following remarks he made about the political fallout from the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The move has ignited outrage, boycott calls, and viral claims of a multibillion-dollar financial loss.

$3.87 Billion Loss Claim Goes Viral

When Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 17, social media exploded with speculation that the company had lost $3.87 billion in market value overnight. The figure was widely shared on X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and Reddit, where users pointed to Kimmel’s suspension as the trigger.

But analysts say the picture is more complex. Disney’s stock dipped about 0.67% following the announcement. Depending on how the numbers are calculated, that decline could reflect anywhere from $1.5 billion to nearly $4 billion in paper value — but experts warn that attributing the entire drop to Kimmel’s suspension is misleading.

“Market caps for companies as large as Disney regularly move by billions in a single session,” analysts noted, adding that wider market conditions also influenced the decline.
