Kim Kardashian is getting candid about life as a single mom — and the challenges of co-parenting with ex-husband Kanye West.
During her appearance on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the reality TV mogul opened up to host Alex Cooper about her current relationship with the rapper and how often he connects with their four children — North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.
When asked when West last saw or spoke to the kids, Kim replied honestly, “Hmm. Whenever he’ll call them and ask.” She then added, “It’s probably been a couple months since we’ve heard from him.”
Despite the distance, Kardashian said she and her children have learned to handle the situation “really well.” “They always knew that [Kanye] had a big life traveling, always on tour, and living in different countries,” she explained. “My job is just to make sure they’re healthy and happy — and that we stick to our routine.”
Kim, who “raises the kids full time,” admitted that co-parenting with West has been “not easy.” She even confessed she’s a bit envious of her sister Khloé Kardashian’s co-parenting dynamic with Tristan Thompson, calling it “really healthy.” “He puts their kids to bed every night and takes them to school when he’s not in season,” she said.
Still, Kim emphasized that she’s never kept her kids away from Kanye. “Every time he’s asked, I will always let them see their father — that’s just who I am,” she said, adding that she even flies them out to Saudi Arabia, Italy, or Japan “whenever he asks.”
However, she admitted there are times when she has to draw boundaries: “If it’s really super unhealthy, I’ll say, ‘Let’s do it here at my house,’ or ‘Let’s figure out another time.’ But when he’s in that place, he usually doesn’t want to see the kids anyway. It’s always worked out naturally.”
As for why she doesn’t clap back at the public “narrative” that she blocks Kanye’s access to the kids, Kim said she prefers to stay silent. “I’m just not that girl online who’s gonna fight back,” she admitted. “It really sucks sometimes, but no matter what he says about me, I’ll never say anything negative about him.”
“The last thing my kids need,” she added firmly, “is to hear it from me.”
