Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman reportedly made a last-minute effort to save her 18-year marriage to country music star Keith Urban, but insiders claim her attempt came too late.
According to RadarOnline, Kidman “rushed back” to Nashville in a desperate bid to reconcile after realizing their relationship was on the verge of collapse. However, sources allege that Urban had already decided to end the marriage, leaving Kidman heartbroken.
Earlier this week, TMZ broke the news of the couple’s split, reporting that Urban was the one who ultimately made the call to end things. The outlet revealed that the pair, who married in 2006, had been living separately since before the summer.
Kidman has reportedly taken on primary care of their daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret while Urban moved into a new residence in Nashville.
Although no official reason for the breakup has been confirmed, multiple reports suggest long-standing issues between the two. One possible source of tension may have been Kidman’s increasingly busy career schedule.
After slowing down her workload to focus on raising her daughters, the 58-year-old actress has recently returned to a thriving film career. A source close to the family told People that Kidman has been “feeling amazing and very happy about having a career again,” adding that her daughters are “very supportive” of their mother’s professional resurgence.
Urban, however, was reportedly less enthusiastic. “Keith was used to her being supportive of his career,” the insider claimed. “He’s not been as supportive as she hoped.”
Despite the mounting strain, sources say Kidman made every effort to mend the relationship. “Nicole wanted to show she was committed, but the truth is Keith had already made up his mind,” a source told RadarOnline. “She rushed back to Nashville, hoping to fix things, but by then it was too late. It’s very sad for her.”
Another insider suggested differing perspectives between the two camps: “Nicole’s side says it’s only a trial separation, while Keith’s side believes the marriage ended long ago. But either way, the reality is they are broken and done.”
Kidman, who appeared at the Nashville Film Festival last week, seemed to remain in good spirits, telling the audience she plans to bring “more and more production” to Tennessee. “I love the Nashville people because they embraced me two decades ago,” she said.
According to court documents, Kidman officially filed for divorce on September 29, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s most admired marriages.
